This Mexican Caribbean jewel is renowned as one of the best dive destinations in the world. It offers stunning, towering coral formations, warm and clear turquoise-blue waters, and an amazing
variety of tropical marine life. Friendly locals with a rich cultural heritage, fantastic weather, delicious food, and miles of sandy beach, make Cozumel a divers' paradise.

History
"Cuzamil", Island of Swallows was inhabited by the Mayans since 300 AD. The spiritual center for the Goddess of Love and Fertility, Ixchel, it was also a thriving trade center. The Spanish
Conquistadores arrived in the early 16th Century, followed by notorious pirates such as Jean Lafitte and Henry Morgan who made it their base in the 17th Centrury. In 1961, Jacques-Yves
Cousteau broadcast the wonders of Cozumel's magnificent reefs to the world, paving the way for today's thriving Dive Community
Diving
Cozumel is fringed by a complex coral reef ecosystem. Part of a massive chain of reefs that stretches from the Gulf of Mexico to Honduras, it is the second largest reef system in the world.

Covering a total area of approximately 12 square miles, Cozumel's reefs are famous for their towering coral pinnacles that drop off into the abyss. A maze of swim-thru's, tunnels and coral caves
provide shelter to more than 500 species of tropical fish. Incredible visibility provides stunning views of Turtles, Nurse Sharks, and Spotted Eagle Rays, as they glide effortlessly over the reef.

Currents and Weather
Famous for it's drift diving, Cozumel has generally mild currents that flow from South to North at 1-2 knots.

Predominantly warm and sunny days, and an average year round water temperature of 80 degrees provide perfect conditions for all aquatic activities.
